Whisky Review: Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu On the Way 2013

Style: Sweet and Spicy

Nose:

Begins with orange drops, vanilla touches, and fresh peppermint brimming with beautiful wood fragrance. Light herbal overtone highlighting the sweet confectionary core. Oily, malt sponge, cake taking a hint of new make notes.

Palate:

Assorted green herbs, all bright and medicinal bringing in more orange confectionaries onto the palate. Malt syrup riding on a powerful peppermint spice. Fizzling sprite, coconut cream and vanilla pods fused into the frosting coated on top. More wood fragrance fluttering gently, a moment of Zen… Very nice.

Finish:

Rock melons, kumquats with some cranberries soaking in vanilla milk. Nice and chewy.

Thoughts:

The spirit in this is distilled in between 2008 to 2010, which technically makes it a 3 YEAR OLD. Gee, why is this so delicious?! Bright orange and vanilla sweetness powered nicely by herb spices while the oak gives a calming balance, the profile already feels so complete with almost no flaws, what can you expect more from a maximum 5 years old whisky? The Chichibu hype, after all, is justified, even when it was 2013.
