Dram Review: Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Teaninich Distilled 2008

[46.0%・8 Years Old・Distilled in 2008・Bottled in 2016・Gordon & MacPhail Bottling・Limited Release]

Nose:

The spirit is grassy and floral with a wet forest vibe but also carries a meaty edge along with the toffee and walnuts. Vaguely perfume-y, but also present are minerals and match sticks. The wee smoke gives off a slightly dirty note.

Palate & Finish:

The palate is composed of simple syrup, toffee fudge and freshly malted barley. Rather spirit-y and grassy. Oily mouthfeel that grows slightly metallic.

The Bourbon cask influence is more obvious in the finish with the spirit characters stretching long.

Thoughts:

I imagine this would be very much the still men’s whisky, a proper entry level dram that would serve the purpose of introducing the concept of whisky in all its basics to a novice quite well..
