Dram Review: Bowmore Feis Ile 2006 Aged 6 Years

[57.4%・6 Years Old・Distilled in 1999・Bottled in 2006・Official Bottling・Limited Release of 600 Bottles]

Nose:

A bit sharp on the nose, some citrus marmalade but really just quite youthful. Good doses of lemongrass and char with a brush of paint stripper. Honeyed cereal follows with some fish sauce and smoked almonds

Palate & Finish:

Lemon and citrus, sooty and ashy peat rumbling with the pineapple syrup swirling with the pepper. Tropical fruits and lychees propping up the vanilla sweetness as the youthful distillate becomes more evident, raw malt that’s herbal, drying and peppery.

The finishing carries some soot and pepper.

Thoughts:

Pretty robust and masculine number, a young volatile malt that embraces its youthfulness. I think the late 1990s stock are now starting to mature and Bowmore in the past couple of years has entered this little renaissance with some solid OB expressions not to mention some quality independent bottlings and I suspect this was one of the releases that showed enough promise to signal the eventual climb.
