Dram Review: Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Caol Ila 12 Years Old Distilled 1969

[40%・12 Years Old・Distilled in 1969・Gordon & MacPhail Bottling・Limited Release]

Nose:

Hint of ash, with a decent layer of stone fruits.  Certainly has that old time-y charm, chalk and seaweed with some light wild flowers. Smoked mussels, croissant and this delightful charred rice fragrance in the background complimented by the confectionary notes seeping out on the back end.

Palate & Finish:

Ripe white fruits with a little burst of acidity that merges well with the wood.  It’s sweet but also deceivingly dry. Only some traces of tar as more white fruits oozes out by way of a powdery delivery whilst the oak gives a wee spicy edge.

Malty and lingering in the finish, black sesame and mild spices, it grows even drier.

Thoughts:

A real treat exulting true elegance, a soft Caol Ila that has mellowed really well especially on the nose inside the bottle presumably..
