[55.0%・10 Years Old・Distilled in 2000・Bottled in 2010・Official Bottling・Cask No. EU 70121・Single Cask Release]
Nose:
Golden honey and barley with a gentle lace of smoke coming through. There is also a hint of white tea that calms the attractive citrus fruits. Structured and balanced with a brush of anise as the maritime smoke grows stronger.
Palate & Finish:
Sweet condensed honey with some light pear infusion, followed by the caramel custard creaminess in strength. The concentrated honey note is akin to the honey flavoured Japanese mouth ulcer medicine for children. And underneath that full bodied layer of sweetness lies an even layering of spirit fruitiness and maritime smoke.
A lick of wood spices leading to the gradual surfacing of the smoke on the back end, spirited, lengthy and full volumed.
Thoughts:
What a brilliant smoky Yamazaki.
The fact that this is quite young has absolutely no bearing on how matured and balanced the cask has developed into.
The world needs more philanthropists to bottle these Yamazaki single casks..
