Dram Review: Cadenhead Small Batch Caperdonich Aged 35 Years

[50.2%・Distilled in 1977・Bottled in 2013・35 Years Old・Cadenhead Bottling・Single Cask Release of 384 Bottles]

Nose:

Old-timey Sherry bomb through and through.  Relentless and concentrated, but utterly satisfying.  Thick chocolate sauce with rose petals and blueberry jam.  Hints of leather and tobacco, telling of the dram’s age.

Palate & Finish:

An explosion of jammy notes on the palate, juicy raisins with dark and syrupy poached fruits, black cherries and toffee treacle together with slices of after eight.   The oaky characters from an old cask are at play here.

Finishes gorgeously with its heavy Sherry influence, the leather providing that drying chewiness.

Finish:

A text book Sherry bomb despite its advanced age.

The cask has truly asserted itself here but certainly more satisfying than imposing in any case..

And that, my Sherried-inclined friends, is one pleasing dram.
