[57.1%・10 Years Old・Distilled in 2001・Bottled in 2012・Gordon & MacPhail Bottling・Casks 3006, 3007, 3008]
Nose:
Bourbon char, the spirit is quite oily and pungent still. A decent layer of Orkney peat with white chocolate, creme caramel, heather, lavender, golden honey and toasted barley.
Palate & Finish:
Lemony with waxed apples in the mix, a generous pinch of exotic spices, flannel seeds and rosemary with the thick vanilla subsequently oozing out along with the woodiness. The fruitiness of the spirit is suppressed by the spices but still sits pretty.
The finishing is very barley driven and yields a sooty aftertaste with the peat.
Thoughts:
Despite being 1st fill Bourbon barrels, this dram is actually rather spirit driven at 10 years of age and at cask strength.. resulting in a rare instance in which I wish the casks would have given more to even things out.. but still, a decent dram..
