Nose:
The peat smoke politely arrives on scene, smoked trout and iodine fill the room with a touch of anise. A fireplace getting started by burning scrunched up newspapers.
Palate & Finish:
Forest berries and sweet peat make for a friendly entry. A chilli zing brings about a lively burn but it does upset the delicate delivery. A light brush of creamy blueberries does improve the follow through.
Blackcurrant flavoured lozenge with traces of dried bonito flakes, the finishing is surprisingly lighter after the burn.
Thoughts:
A slightly flawed but fascinating Caol Ila, quite uneven but that contributes to its playfulness for those who seeks a fun dram.
