Whisky Review: Douglas Laing Old Particular Clynelish 18 Years Old DL10999

Style: Sweet and Delicate

Nose:
A lovely mix of white flower honey and jammy apricots on the nose. The delicate floral side has a slight upper hand. Waxy undertone slowly ascends, peppermint spice tightens up the aroma, need time to breath. Lemon tart and sponge cake opens up overtime. Soft and sweet aroma.

Palate:
Delicate sweetness remains on track. White floral wavering gently with nectar sweetness. Fragrant honey infused within. Apricots, honey oak and vanilla weaved together at lower branches. Icy peppermint gradually amplified together with the inherent waxiness in the spirit.

Finish:
Nectarine syrup, surprisingly waxy at finish. More honey and plenty of fragrant fruits linger. Pretty nice.

Thoughts:
This Clynelish is on the delicate and sweet side, a lot of floral honey. Waxiness is quiet but surprisingly persistent. Maybe this is not the best nor the most complex spirit from this great distillery, but it is more than qualified with nice intensity and strength. Decent drinking stock, tick.
