[55.3%・Distilled in 1997・Bottled in 2013・16 Years Old・Berry Bros & Rudd Bottling・Cask 6867・Single Cask Release]
Nose:
This one needs some breathing initially but once it sits for a while the old school sherry note surfaces. Pu’erh tea with an underlying waxiness. Caramel tart dressed freely with chocolate sauce and caramelized banana mush. Hint of old dunnage warehouse on the back end.
Palate & Finish:
Boiling brown sugar and raisins form an intense sweetness that slowly expands until it reaches a crescendo, then it gradually unfolds into a lovely Christmas pudding note.
The sheer sticky delivery then disperses into notes of slightly acidic red fruits in the finish with the creaminess surfacing again at the very end.
Thoughts:
A Clynelish bottled for the Japanese market and you can see traits of why this cask was chosen. A sticky affair perfect for the sweet tooth.
