Whisky Review: The Macallan Whisky Maker’s Edition

Tasting Notes:

The Macallan Whisky Maker’s Edition

Style: Light and Sweet

Nose:

Plum sauce, red fruits dressed over pulled pork, toffee melt with a pinch of nutmeg. The ginger notes hits an optimum level that it gives a fresh, slightly spicy aroma. Hints of vanilla oak infused within.

Palate:

First touch on the palate is a mix of young grape juice and sliced ginger with dark chocolate and charred oak. Nutmeg and light fruitiness stemming through the body, I pick up some plums, citrus and peach on the way. More spice cake, delightful malt and honey towards the end.

Finish:

Simple run of light plum juice, with a touch of timber shavings.

Thoughts:

Sweet, enjoyable character. Nice sherry complimented well with multiple spices and oaky notes. Light delivery of flavours outlines the interaction between the elements. Not excessively complicated or giving robust flavour punches, but it is good enough to enjoy and discover the spirit making of the Macallan.
